Tomball + Competition Week 2

Written by Twishaa and Laya

Hey Warriors! This past week our members have been working hard to make the necessary revisions to the Goldfish based on the Tomball results before the upcoming Manor competition. Tomball Recap:

  • In Tomball, the Goldfish performed well in the qualification matches. After the qualifications, we ranked 5th because “there were a lot of early matches where we were able to gain ranking points”(Mae Chen). Despite being 4th seed, we were able to pick 2 decent alliances. However, our team still ended up getting knocked out during play-offs.

Using the insights gained from these matches, our team has been hard at work making some key adjustments to improve the Goldfish.

  • The electrical subteam made minor improvements to the electrical components to enhance the robot’s performance and get it into top shape for Manor.
  • The CAD team has been working to install two new subsystems.
    • The first is an active pivot intake, utilizing gears and belts, which replaces the previous intake system that proved unreliable.
    • The second subsystem involves a thicker wheel, which improves the consistency of feeding balls into the shooter.
  • Mechanical began working on adding a kicker wheel to guide algae into the center of the intake, but we ultimately decided to switch to a full active ground intake for better efficiency
  • The programming subteam has been fine-tuning systems to increase efficiency and speed. They have also been working to improve the function of the autonomous technology.

See you next week Warriors!
